Most children have never seen anything like sand art. Watching a story appear from nothing but light and sand — and then getting to make their own — sparks something rare: complete, absorbed attention. I bring two formats into schools: a whole-school performance for the assembly hall, and a hands-on workshop where every child creates their own artwork on an individual light table.
A 25 to 30 minute show for the whole school, projected onto a large screen so every child sees clearly. Themed around storytelling, history, identity, or any topic your school is exploring. Works for both primary and secondary, and is a memorable way to launch a theme week or mark a special occasion.
I bring individual light tables (typically 8 to 12 stations) so children work in small, rotating groups. Each child learns basic techniques and creates their own sand artwork. Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes and are tactile, low-pressure and genuinely creative.
The workshop content can be themed to whatever your class is studying. Sand art is a wonderfully flexible vehicle for learning across subjects:
| Subject area | Workshop theme ideas |
|---|---|
| History | Ancient civilisations, the Blitz, local history, migration stories told in sand |
| Literacy & story | Illustrating a class novel, fairy tales, sequencing a narrative scene by scene |
| Geography | Landscapes, rivers, volcanoes, world map and continents |
| Art & design | Light, shadow, negative space, texture, composition |
| PSHE & wellbeing | Refugee Week, identity, emotions, mindfulness through tactile creativity |
Tell me your topic and I will shape the session around it.
Working in schools carries responsibilities I take seriously. Every booking includes:
I have performed for The Oxford Academy and a range of schools across the UK.
School sessions start from £300 for a single performance or workshop. Half-day and full-day packages are available when you would like multiple year groups to take part — often the most cost-effective option for a whole-school experience. Travel within 60 miles of Worksop is included; further travel is quoted at cost.
A full day lets several classes rotate through workshops while the whole school enjoys an assembly performance — a complete creative day that children remember for years.
Both primary and secondary. The assembly performance suits all ages; workshop complexity is adjusted to the year group, from EYFS through to sixth form and even adult education.
With 8 to 12 light tables and small rotating groups, a single 90-minute session typically serves one or two classes. Full-day bookings allow many more children to participate.
Yes. A DBS check is available on request, and I am fully insured with risk assessments provided in advance.
A hall or large classroom. For the assembly performance, the ability to dim the lights and a wall or screen for projection. I bring everything else.

Tell me your school, the year groups involved, and any topic you would like the session linked to. I will reply within 24 hours with options and a quote.
